The Dogon Country

NOMAD

ADVENTURES

The highlight of Mali was our visit to the Dogon Country.  The first evening we spent at a small village called Dourou where we spent the afternoon just wandering around the small Dogon villages.  Later that evening before dinner one of the guides who was staying over night with his group asked if we would be interested in seeing one of the other villages near by.  He explained that his brother was keen to take us there but as he could not speak English and we understood very little French he was unable to ask us.  We managed to arrange a hike for the next day to the village where we would spend the morning visiting, have lunch and then return back after lunch.  It was an amazing 5 km hike to the village, as we walked through and down a gorge we were greeted by the sight of the village ahead which is up against the hillside.  Whilst walking around the village we got to see some of the pigmy houses which have since been abandoned, later whilst Jamie was resting I went to one of the local church services which was a great experience and privilege

We then had lunch and headed back to Dourou which surprisingly went really quickly and once we got back had a quick shower, cold drink and made our way to San where we would spend the evening before making our way into Burkina Faso the next day.  On the way we had another puncture, both of us could not believe our luck.  After 15 minutes the tyre was changed and we were on our way again however for the rest of the day whilst driving we were convinced (paranoid) we could feel the tyres going flat!
