Pokot Tribe

NOMAD

ADVENTURES

Whilst staying at Lake Baringo we were invited to go along with one of the over landing companies to a local Kenyan tribe called the Pokot Tribe.

We got to hear a bit about the traditional clothing worn and the way of life of the Pokot which is predominately nomadic however as western life is encroaching more on their way of traditional living the men of the tribe still venture away with the cattle whilst the women and children remain behind at a more permanent base.

The Pokot tribe are a "sub-tribe" of the Masaai. They still practice polygamy and the tribe we visited the chief had 3 wives, the first wife always having the most jewelry on display.
