Dissapointment with Mole so we headed for the coast

NOMAD

ADVENTURES

To get to Kakum National Park we decided to take the less travelled road. So with little signage and a few stops along the way conferring with the locals we headed on.  We later had further confirmation from a local man of our route and saying “….the road is not a good road as it is very bumpy, but Land Rover is strong and does not fear bad road”.

The GPS waypoints for Kakum we had found on one of the many over landing websites took us to a place that was deserted however appeared to be the Kakum National Park. We later discovered that the park entrance was located further down the road from the waypoints we had.  We just could not believe the bad luck we were having so far in Ghana, no matter where or what we tried to see was a huge disappointment, closed or no longer.  Our last option was to head for the coast as we were certain that with sand between our toes, breaking waves a recipe guarenteed to lift our spirits and plan our next steps.

The beaches as we predicted are beautiful expanses of white sand full of palm trees with clear blue warm water as far as the eye can see – finally something on our list which we can do.  We headed for Brenu Beach Resort where we camped on the beach under the palm trees, we had also heard that they do good cheap lobster and very cold beer – what more could you want or need – and for the first time we were not disappointed.  We decided to spend a few days here as we had been driving through Ghana non stop for the last 3 days.

Each morning we would notice many little fishing boats on the horizon which had obviously been out well before sunrise and many we noticed through the ghostly images on the waters from the moonlight stayed out long after sunset.

On one of our lazy days just sitting back watching the waves and fishing boats, we noticed one of the boats coming ashore. We soon noticed that it was only a father and we guess two young sons, Jamie then ran down to the beach to see if he could help bring the boat ashore. As the Father ran into the Restuarant with a huge fish Jamie helped the two young boys bail water and keep the boat steady in the breaking waves before setting out again to the horizon.
